I have stealth veins.

I went to the doctor to get my blood drawn to do a cholesterol check. Nothing major, it's fairly routine, and while my numbers are high, they're not terrible, I'm told. I don't know, I've never seen the numbers meself.

However, there's the problem. Getting the blood drawn. I have these very deep veins. Which I suppose is a good thing, I mean, if I am in a sword fight with Toshiro Mifune, and he cuts me, I don't want to start bleeding massively right away..takes all the fun out of things. However, getting stuck four or five times while they're looking for veins, and then they can't FIND one. That sucks.

They're talking about taking blood from my groin. My answer to that is "Like Hell you are." I am not about to listen to the cracking of my hip joints while they try to overcome what years of therapy and orthopedic surgery have not. And I am NOT showing that man my kit. End of story.

I mentioned taking it out of my foot and he poopoo'ed the idea. Said that the danger of blood clots was too great. I can deal with that, my feet are hideously ticklish, and I am in no hurry to see what their tolerance for pain is. But he wasn't finished. He said blithely "But if you go into the hospital they can cut down, to take blood."

I could feel another "Like Hell" coming on.

He continued. "We hardly ever do that any more but they do it quite a bit in the hospital."

Yeah, right. In the hospital. Where they have the ability to STRAP YOU DOWN.

Then while he was sticking me, and looking for a vein, he started to WIGGLE IT AROUND. Like he could just kinda FEEL the vein with the needle while it was inside me.

I expressed a certain amount of concern and disapproval with this, but he said it's all right. That if necessary it was possible to take blood from my neck.

Uh..no. Absolutely not.

I would find another doctor but initial visit costs are high, I'm paying for this myself, my insurance copayment won't cover it, and frankly it's a pain in my patoot to go looking for another doctor.

You are an SEDF--Sober Emotional Destructive Follower. This makes you an evil genius. You are extremely focused and difficult to distract from your tasks. With luck, you have learned to channel your energies into improving your intellect, rather than destroying the weak and unsuspecting.

Your friends may find you remote and a hard nut to crack. Few of your peers know you very well--even those you have known a long time--because you have expert control of the face you put forth to the world. You prefer to observe, calculate, discern and decide. Your decisions are final, and your desire to be right is impenetrable.

You are not to be messed with. You may explode.
  • We should have a kid ;)

My veins are thinner than a fly's wings, and can bleed for hours when pricked. Getting blood for tests is a pain for me too, but because the nurses get all panicky and don't know what to do with all the extra blood :)
  • I think it's not the vein but the nurse. I have giant veins that run like a blue roadmap under my skin, and after the past year of monthly (or more) blood draws, I'm pretty sure that the needle wigglers, and multi-stickers all went to the same Ow-school!
